Treading forward

Yesterday, I received shocking news about a friend's best friend dying at gun point. My heart sank as I thought 'Oh no, not again." I cried for my friend as he mourned another fallen brother.

Last week, I cried with a friend as she lost her mother. I felt helpless as I knew there was nothing I could do to lessen her pain. I'm glad that I took the time to visit Tita at the hospital. Even though she was hooked up to so many machines, she smiled when I walked through the door.

Oh, and Patrick Swayze died too.

I wonder how they'll all interact since they're all newbies in heaven. That was the only light, quite comical thought I could weave into the happenings of the past weeks.

I also haven't been feeling well lately. My friend said that I probably need to hug a tree to release some of the negative energy I've been absorbing.

I woke up this morning and the first thing I saw was beautiful blue skies and clusters of white spiffy clouds. I made a silent prayer and trusted God and the Universe to make everything be ok.

I know everything will be ok.

Sad loss for Philippine Cinema

How I wish I didn't have to write this, but I just want to get this off my chest.

I was literally about to go out the door when I received news from my 2bu! friend Tammy: 2BU friends, former correspondent Alexis Tioseco and his girlfriend Nika Bohnic were murdered last night. Please pray for their families in Canada and Slovenia. Philippine Cinema lost a great duo and we have lost a good colleague. Justice for Alexis and Nika!

I cried. On my way to the office, I cried for them.

We were never introduced, but I knew who Alexis was. He was a big (if not, biggest) supporter of Philippine Cinema.

I couldn't believe it was true. I just saw him at the Silent Film Fest last week!

I remember that I sobbed reading through his letter to Nika in Rogue.

Such a great loss!

May you Rest in Peace, Alexis and Nika.
I know you will make beautiful movies in heaven.

At This Moment...

I am thankful for the blessings slowly trickling into our lives.

I pray that I may have the strength to be patient and tolerant, and have the ability to filter out negative vibes from people who way too cynical and "pa-diff". I suddenly feel tired of trying to understand people and their radical way of thinking. To exert the slightest amount of effort is such a burden. So, I'd rather just like to let go of that.

I pray that I find a happy job that would fit me.

I pray for health, for peace of mind, for sustenance.

The past months has been quite a rollercoaster ride. So much comings and goings on that at some point everything was just too much to bear.

- Found out I had a medical condition that really dampened my spirits. This still has yet to be resolved.
- Got a job. Resigned from that job after 3 months, after realizing that I was meant for something more worthy. My body basically told me to give up the lost cause.
- Mingled more with other people. Enjoyed after-work drinks with my closest college friends. Had to give that up when I resigned. Reconnected with my Miriam friends over Wednesday dinners and dessert fests.
- The latest big blow was when Cory Aquino died. My only clear memory of the EDSA Revolution was going to a chapel near home to pray the rosary while helicopters noisily hovered overhead. But still, when the news about Cory's death broke, I was glued to the tv for all the news about the wake, the funeral march, and the burial. It's such a sad, sad loss for the Philippines.
- But the best new development is that Mike and I are finally Makati-bound. We found the perfect condo for us.

At times, I still can't help but feel tired and drained. But I am thankful. I am thankful. I am thankful.

I am looking forward for things to become more peachy.

Low Blow

One of the crappiest feelings in the world is a friend breaking your heart.

Fine. Forget about professionalism, but what about common decency? There is such a thing as doing your job, and there is such a thing as bastusan.

I can't believe I was so blind, thinking that you were gods. You can have all the shitty glory you're whores for. I am done.

C'mon, Universe! C'mon!

Publishing, broadcasting, and matters related to academia will glitter and glow. If you are a writer, editor, researcher, publicist, student, teacher, lecturer, radio or TV host, blogger, or are in sales, you will find yourself at the right place at the right time.-

I found my old deviant art page. I totally forgot that I had a bunch of poems in my gallery.

They had way too much angst. But they were quite good though.

Missing a flight

I always have these dreams where I'm packing, cramming stuff into a bag that won't zip anymore, and while still having loads of stuff lying at my feet. I also always seem to be in a hurry because I'm afraid of missing my plane. The setting is always an unfamiliar, out of this world airport and where the planes look feel like big trains or buses.

Because I have more random stuff to share

Continuation of a Facebook meme.
Come to think of it, I don't know where the term "meme" comes from. hmmm..

1. As a kid, I also dreamed of becoming a stage actress. That's was my answer to "What do you want to be when you grow up?" in autograph books. I think the phase came after I watched Repertory Philippine's Camelot.

2. When I get stressed, my left shoulder hurts. I call that pinching pain "my evil twin".

3. Back in high school, I used to hang out in National Bookstore along Quezon Ave. I'd browse through architectural books, making up my dream home in my head. Now, I hang out in Powerbooks Greenbelt. I read cookbooks and magazines.

4. One of my favorite childhood dishes was spaghetti with meat sauce from the UP Vinzon's Hall canteen. My dad and I would always go there after my swimming lessons.

5. I think I have obsessive compulsive disorder. I sometimes do things by threes. Lock the car doors and check, walk away, recheck, walk away, recheck. I have go to the comfort room three times before going into a movie theater. List goes on.

6. I cringe when I think about stupid things that I've done. I get these awful feeling in my stomach, and I mentally punch myself for my lack of better judgment.

7. I am an overprotective friend.

8. I read other people's blogs because I feel that I live through their experiences.

9. I had two Smokey Mountain albums in my tape collection. Geneva much? hehehe

10. I honestly think I am a bit lame. I can't strike lively conversations with strangers.

11. When I was in kindergarten, I had a classmate who had downs syndrome. One day, I think he spat on me or something, the teacher made him apologize. He went up to me and hugged me tight. I put my arms around him, and pat his back. I believe that was the first conscious not-so-kiddie-like thing I ever did.

12. Hindi talaga ako chismosa. Kusang dumadating ang balita sakin one way or another.

13. My favorite Christmas present was from "Santa". It was a big, big stuffed green dinosaur with orange spots and spiked down his back. It had a long tail, and droopy eyes. I called him Dino. And I rode him like a horse.

14. Mahilig ako sa ice cream. But I don't have an all-time favorite flavor.

15. I have a shopping problem. Teehee

reposting from Fezbook

Once you've been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it is because I want to know more about you.

1. I have very good sense of direction. Ask Mike! I am obsessed with maps. But I still do get lost from time to time.

2. I am addicted to magazines. I buy at least 6 magazines a month (including back issues of foreign titles from Booksale). Issues from up to 10 years ago are still piled up in our house. Fire hazzard! I have just recently learned to "let go" and allow myself to (GASP!) tear out pages and throw out some.

3. I'm a shoe-killer. I wear my favorite shoes over and over until they're so worn out that I have to let them go! Sadness.

4. I believe in past lives and parallel universes.

5. I was a Girl Scout from Grade 3 to 2nd year High School. I never missed a camp/ cook out/ activity, and even went to Japan for an exchange program.

6. I get cold easily. My toes and my nose are always the first to freeze.

7. I consider passing Math 17 in one take as one of my greatest academic achievements.

8. I can't live with a small bag. My normal everyday bag weighs around 5 pounds. Yikes. That's why my left shoulder is shot.

9. My classmates used to call me "4 eyes". I wore really thick eyeglasses for about 12 years. I had Lasik surgery in 2005 and boy, was it a life changer.

10. I like taking photos. But I've always had a bad habit of not sharing them with other people. I still have dozens of rolls of undeveloped film from probably 8 years back. Hehehehe

11. Purple used to be my favorite color. Now, its pink. But it changes frequently, actually.

12. Cooking makes me happy. As in. I am cooking-obsessed. I read food blogs everyday, and I have a collection of cooking utensils, recipe books and what not, all saved up for when I have my "own kitchen".

13. Trash tv is my guilty pleasure.

14. On my most recent trip, I lugged around roughly 15 kilos of baggage across 2 cities and 2 countries. My check-in luggage was already overweight. Hehehehe

15. The first cassette tape I bought was I Like You by Geneva Cruz

16. Bacon is MMMMMM heaven!

17. I like watching baduy, pinoy pop movies on Cinema One. Nalelate ako pumasok sa class dati kasi gusto ko muna tapusin yung sine.

18. I have no problem with eating alone in restaurants. I consider it "me time".

19. I'm scared of ghosts/monsters. So when you're telling a scary story and I cover my ears and beg you to stop, please stop. I couldn't sleep properly for 3 days after watching Resident Evil. *shudder*

20. I love taking trains in other countries, but I am scared of the mad rush of people here at home.

21. I hate (most) fish. Ayoko siya. Nasusuka ako sa amoy. But I like sushi!

22. I was a sporty kid. My dream was to be an Olympian. I was into gymnastics and swimming. I quit gymnastics because my lolo forgot to pick me up from school to bring me to training. At Grade 4, getting picked up at 7PM was very traumatic for me. I was invited to train for the UP Swimming Team but I declined. I was still in grade school, and training was at 5pm. Ayoko kasi I was afraid of the pool. Kasi scary yung tiles, and I'm afraid of sharks eh.

23. I hate getting tinga. It drives me insane.

24. I believe I was in my prettiest state when I was in 2nd year high school. Minus the glasses, ang payat ko, and ganda ng buhok ko (layered, ala Rachel/ Jennifer Aniston). And did I mention, ang payat ko?

25. When ordering food, I always have a "default" order, then at the last minute I'll change my mind and decide to try something new. When the waiter comes, I say my default order. Then I usually feel bad afterwards for not ordering something else.

On my knees

Dear Universe,

Please give me a break. A big, big break.
I need to land that job and we need to get that place.
Or else I will go insane.

Thank you.
Thank you for your quick response.

OA Worst List

Yahoo's Worst Dressed at the Golden Globes is ridiculous!

I actually like a couple of dresses on the list! Hello, they don't look bad! I think they just picked random people to bash.

Miley looks cute

I love this!
The write up says that Marissa looks like a pirate.

Megan is so hot. I wish I were as sexy as her!!!

The color may not be perfect on Elizabeth Banks, but I don't think she deserves to be in the Worst Dressed list. I actually love the dress detail.

I love this!!!
I don't usually like animal prints, but I absolutely adore the color this dress came in. Maggie looks so chic!

I wonder who actually made the list? Was it a random employee at Yahoo?

Some "worst" dressed, in my opinion, look much better than some picks for the Best Dressed! Pfft.
